What Decides the Price of Surgical Cotton
Why absorbent cotton wool is quoted per order, and what to send to get a rate back.
There is no single price for surgical cotton, which is why manufacturers quote per order rather than publish a rate card. The same 500 g pack can carry a different rate for two buyers in the same week, and the reasons are not arbitrary.
Here is what actually moves the number.
What the rate is built from
- The cotton lint rate on the day
- Absorbent cotton wool is made from raw cotton, and raw cotton is a traded commodity. When lint moves, the cost of every pack moves with it. This is the largest single factor and the one nobody controls.
- Pack size
- Smaller packs cost more per gram than larger ones. A 20 g pack carries the same packing and labelling work as a 500 g pack spread over a twenty-fifth of the cotton. Per kilogram, the 500 g pack is always the cheaper way to buy.
- Quantity
- A carton and a truckload are not quoted the same way. Larger orders take a lower rate because the production run, the packing and the dispatch are done once rather than repeatedly.
- Where it is going
- Freight from Gorakhpur to a PIN code in eastern Uttar Pradesh is not the freight to one in south India. This is why the delivery PIN code is asked for before a rate is given.
- Format
- Roll and Zig Zag packs are the same cotton, but the concertina fold and interleaving are a different packing operation, so the two do not carry an identical rate.

- The pack size and format — roll 20 g, 40 g, 400 g or 500 g, or Zig Zag 100 g, 400 g or 500 g
- The quantity you want
- The delivery PIN code
That is enough for a firm quotation covering both the goods and delivery to that address. Anything else — a carton breakdown, a certificate copy for your file, a tender reference — can come with it.
Why no price list is published
A published figure is out of date the week lint moves, and it is the wrong number for most buyers anyway: it is either too high for a bulk order or too low for a single carton. A quotation against your actual quantity and destination is the number you can put in a purchase order.

Yes. Every order we dispatch from GIDA, Gorakhpur comes with a GST invoice, for retail and bulk alike. Orders you place through our authorised distributor are invoiced by the distributor in the usual way.

Seven. Absorbent Cotton Wool I.P. comes as a roll in 20 g, 40 g, 400 g and 500 g packs, and Absorbent Zig Zag Cotton Wool I.P. comes in 100 g, 400 g and 500 g. All of them are made at GIDA, Gorakhpur and packed under our own Belsara brand.
